Tudor Princess Date Watch: Every Girl’s Dream

Many lady watch enthusiasts dream of owning the perfect time-telling accessory. This is more difficult than it seems because most brands don’t offer an extensive catalog of pieces exclusively for women, as the hype is often directed more on men’s watches. However, Tudor was able to open a new world for the ladies by creating a variety of exquisite watches specifically catered to them. The Tudor Princess Date collection is just one of many, but it exudes unmatched refinement and femininity unlike any other.

History Behind the Tudor Princess Date Collection

To make a long story short, Tudor was acquired by Hans Wilsdorf who is also the founder of Rolex. The idea he had for the brand was to offer affordable luxury pieces that possess similar features and quality as a Rolex watch. A couple of decades later, the Tudor Oyster Prince was launched. This legendary model is the basis of most timepieces in the current Tudor Prince  and Tudor Princess collections.

The Tudor Oyster Princess was first introduced to the world in the 1950s. It was launched as the feminine counterpart of the Oyster Prince. Much like its brother, this model featured a waterproof Oyster case and a self-winding perpetual rotor.  In addition, the Oyster Princess was also marketed in a pretty similar way as its masculine equivalent. While the Prince used images of men doing heavy work, the Princess used a lady skillfully riding her horse with the caption “For women who lead active lives”. This was done to showcase the durability that comes with each Oyster Princess because, for Tudor, strength and reliability are qualities not limited to men.

This idea was further solidified with the launch of the Tudor Princess Oysterdate in the 1970s. The brand chose to work with Leigh Hansen, a champion water skier, who wore the said model whilst holding a water ski for the advertisement. This campaign showed that, regardless of its dainty look, the Princess Oysterdate is a watch that can withstand harsh circumstances.

Today, the Tudor Princess Date still has that timeless, elegant style but with improved quality and features. Most models come in steel cases and bracelets, boasting water resistance of up to 100m and 38-hour power reserve. More than being the sister of the Oyster Prince, the Princess is undeniably one of the many ladies’ watches born out of Tudor’s creativity and innovation.

Tudor Princess Date vs. Rolex Lady Datejust

Coming from the same roots, it is only expected for these two iconic models — the Tudor Princess Date and the Rolex Lady Datejust — to be often associated with each other. Let’s find out just how alike they are by comparing the Tudor Princess Date Ref. M92513-0010 and the Rolex Lady Datejust Ref. 279173

Design and Structure

Right off the bat, you’ll notice that their dial patterns are different despite having the same color. This particular Tudor Princess Date follows a mosaic pattern while the Rolex Lady Datejust has a sunray finish. Moreover, the Princess watch has a 3-link bracelet, while the Lady Datejust has a 5-link bracelet. They also differ in case sizes with the Tudor at 22mm and the Rolex at 28mm. In terms of similarities, both watches make use of steel and gold for the case and bracelet while featuring magnified date windows at 3 o’clock.

Movement

The Tudor Princess Date follows a self-winding mechanical movement with a 38-hour power reserve. The Rolex Lady Datejust, on the other hand, runs on a perpetual, self-winding movement with a 55-hour power reserve. In terms of water resistance, both models can handle a depth of up to 100m.

Price

This Tudor Princess watch is priced at $3,600 USD, while the Rolex Lady Datejust retails for around $12,900 USD. This shows quite a large difference in price with one costing approximately four times as much as the other.

While these two share a number of similarities, they also are quite distinct. Factors such as brand reputation, quality of movement, budget, etc come into play when trying to decide which piece is more suited for you. At the end of the day, both watches are well-loved by patrons and connoisseurs.

Reasons to Buy a Tudor Princess Date Watch

1. Luxury at a Lower Cost

For an established brand with such recognized collections, people would typically expect higher prices. However, given its history, Tudor has always been the affordable luxury option for many. Rest assured that these watches offer excellent craftsmanship regardless of the cost.

2. Timeless Designs and High Quality

One of the great things about the Tudor Princess Date collection is how it consists of elegant watches for women that can withstand the boundaries of time. A Princess Date piece can accompany you no matter what, when, or where. The best part is, you get a gorgeous watch with equally impressive specifications and accuracy.

3. Women Empowerment

Now, this may seem cheesy but collections that perfectly capture the essence of women are pretty rare. Many brands market their feminine watches as delicate or dainty, and while there is nothing wrong with that, women aren’t limited to those adjectives. The Tudor Princess Date was always showcased as a tough and durable watch, perfect for strong ladies. Ultimately, owning a timepiece that can handle and empower you and many women sounds pretty worth it to me.

Tudor Princess Date: Powerfully Feminine Watches

Despite often being associated with its male counterpart, the Tudor Princess Date is undeniably a line that has captured the hearts of many ladies out there. Tudor was able to incorporate both functional and symbolic elements into each and every piece in this range. From its elegant design to its empowering history, the Tudor Princess Date is definitely a collection women should not miss out on.
