New Tissot PRX Watches

Tissot PRX: Innovator by Tradition

Tissot reinterprets their historic 1970s Tissot PRX through the modern PRX collection.  The original piece in 1978 was defined by its integrated steel bracelet that seamlessly blended with the slim case containing its quartz movement. Now, in 2021, this watch has been recreated, but with some additional, contemporary  tweaks. The Tissot PRX is now even slimmer than before, and boasts a new and perfect vertically-brushed finish. It provides wearers with excellent Swiss craftsmanship, which is typically seen in high-end pieces only, at remarkably competitive prices.

The Tissot PRX collection offers three types of different dial designs: a vertically-brushed satin-finished dial, a sunburst dial, and an embossed dial. It also offers these designs in three shades that you can choose between, including black, blue, and silver. Two of the best-selling pieces in this collection are the PRX Ref. T137.410.11.041.00 with a vertically-brushed blue dial and the PRX Powermatic 80 Ref. T137.407.21.031.00 with an embossed silver dial.

How Much Is a Tissot PRX Watch

Generally, a brand new Tissot PRX timepiece costs around $369 USD to $810 USD. The price of the specific model varies depending on the materials used and the features offered. For instance, the PRX Powermatic 80 is more expensive than the quartz models because its innovative automatic movement comes with a significantly longer power reserve.

PRX Silver Dial

One exceptional PRX Powermatic 80 model is the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Silver Dial Men’s Watch T137.407.21.031.00, which can be purchased at around $810 USD. This is one of the most popular PRX watches available today because of its gorgeous two-toned look. It boasts a rose gold bezel fitted atop a silver stainless steel case and bracelet. Its striking silver embossed dial is also gorgeously contrasted with rose gold-tone indices and hands. Even the date window, located at the 3 o’clock position, is accented with rose gold. A more affordable version of this watch is the PRX Silver Dial Men’s Watch T137.410.11.031.00, which retails at $369 USD. You can save a few hundred dollars with the PRX T137.410.11.031.00, but it does not have the rose gold PVD-coated bezel and is powered by a Swiss quartz movement instead.

PRX Blue Dial

A blue dial version of the Tissot PRX is available for just $419 USD. This is the PRX Men’s Blue Dial Watch T137.410.11.041.00. It has a vertically brushed, satin-finished blue dial with an integrated link bracelet. With a 40mm case diameter that is only 10mm thick, this quartz watch is slender and extremely easy to wear on the wrist. Adding to the watch’s elegant case is the shining silver bezel, which matches the thin silver applied indices on the dial. There is an automatic version of the PRX Blue Dial, the PRX Powermatic 80 Ref. T137.407.11.041.00. This timepiece boasts an embossed textured blue dial and retails at approximately $760 USD.

PRX Black Dial

A solid black dial version of the Tissot PRX is available if you want a versatile timepiece that can match any outfit of the day. The PRX Men’s Black Dial Watch T137.410.11.051.00 is a standout choice, available at just $379 USD. While it may seem to have a simple black dial at first glance, a closer look reveals its lovely sunburst finish, shimmering where the light hits it. The PRX Powermatic 80 Ref. T137.407.11.051.00 is the upgraded version of the PRX Black Dial, which comes at a more expensive price of around $760 USD. This model also features an elegant black dial, but with an embossed waffle-like texture instead.

New Tissot PRX 2021 Models

In 2021, Tissot released new Tissot PRX 40 205 and Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 watches. In essence, the PRX 40 205 is the quartz counterpart of the automatic PRX Powermatic 80. These watches were released in the month of June with new, updated features. Of the models launched, the Powermatic 80 Blue Ref. T137.407.11.041.00 is the best-selling.

The new Tissot Powermatic 80 is an automatic watch made from stainless steel with three different decorated dials, offering a choice between blue, black, or silver and gilt dials. It runs on a Swiss automatic movement with a patented Nivachron balance spring. The Powermatic 80 is a great entry-level watch that boasts an 80 hour-power reserve, which remains as accurate as ever even after not being worn for three days. It also has 23 jewels, which allows for less friction on the surface while rotating.

Tissot also tweaked the case of the watch a little to match the stronger automatic movement, although it is still highly wearable as it is just half a millimeter thick than the case of the PRX 40 205. It uses a 316L stainless steel case, although the PRX Powermatic 80 Ref. T137.407.21.031.00 is an exception, being the only variant to feature a rose gold PVD-coated bezel. All of the TIssot automatic watches in the PRX Powermatic 80 sub-collection have a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with a layer of anti-reflective coating, and a see-through case back. In addition, these 2021 watches feature luxurious steel bracelets with interchangeable straps and butterfly clasps with push buttons.

Tissot PRX's History and Design Details

Tissot, an American brand, reproduced their 1978 Tissot PRX watches with the modern PRX collection, featuring the familiar integrated bracelets and slender cases. Labeled as an “Innovator by tradition”, the brand made sure that the designs of the Tissot PRX are still trendy today, with a touch of contemporary innovation.

The “PRX” label was meant to emphasize how the watches were “Precise and Robust”. Meanwhile, the “X” is the Roman numeral for the number 10, and represents the 100 meters of water resistance the Tissot PRX timepieces possess. The PRX’s classic influences can be seen through its narrow hour markers, wide horizontal link steel bracelets, and barrel-shaped cases containing powerful quartz movements. All these iconic elements recall the style and design of the original 1978 Tissot PRX watch.

Apart from quartz watches, the PRX collection also offers automatic watches, which are the PRX Powermatic 80 models. These watches run on the Powermatic 80 movement, which boasts an 80-hour power reserve and contains an anti-magnetic titanium alloy known as the Nivachron balance spring. With this balance spring, the PRX Powermatic 80 will be able to provide a precise performance for a longer period of time, as the watch will be more resistant to shocks, temperature changes, and magnetic fields.

All PRX watches feature hands that are coated with Super-LumiNova to ensure high visibility even under all sorts of lighting conditions. They also have a date display located at the 3 o’clock position, with clear and readable numbers. These watches also feature quintessential baton-style hour and minute hands and applied stick-like indices as hour markers. Aside from the dial, the finish applied to the Tissot PRX is also exceptional, with all-around vertical brushing for a smooth matte look. Only a few polished tinges, on the bezel and on the sides of the bracelet links, add a touch of shine and elegance to this rugged watch.
